With the 1261AW Ozark, Supro are really spoiling us. This attentive and sensitive reissue of the most iconic guitar of the ’50s has the same body dimensions and 25-inch scale length. The same pinstripe detailing even traces the edges of the Antique White finished body. In fact, one of the only slightly modern twist is a welcome one since the fixed, six-saddle string-through-body bridge is a vast improvement in terms of both intonation and playability. The bridge has also been mounted on a steel plate to ensure optimum string resonance and the result is a jaw-dropping electric guitar that’s full of heart, solid sound, and super-long sustain. This faithful ode to a guitar deity comes complete with a Supro Deluxe gig bag.
The 1261AW Ozark with Bespoke Lace Alumitone
Just because it’s Supro, Lace Music have exclusively designed the bespoke Aluma 90 pickup that’s mounted on the face of the Ozark. The Aluma 90 accurately mimics the tone of the original, and now extinct,Valco lap steel pickup and in this incarnation, comes supported by volume and tone controls. Another modern tweak is the satin-gloss finish of the back of the neck for a buttery-smooth playing feel which is carried through by the 14th fret set-in construction that also dramatically improves tuning stability. The Ozark is a considerate and subtle reworking that manages to combine the reliability of modern touches with timeless and untouchable sound.
