Back in 1982, Sequential Circuits (formerly Dave Smith Instruments) released the Prophet 600: the first commercially available synth loaded with MIDI, which essentially changed the world forever. Fast forward to today: Behringer have taken the good old Prophet 600 and turned it into an affordable desktop module packed with two extra voices and more. Enter the Behringer Pro-800.
The Behringer Pro-800
Basically the smaller sibling of the well-known Prophet 5, the Prophet 600 wasn’t as massive as some other classic ’80s synths. It matched Roland’s Juno in terms of scope and came loaded with two oscillators that offers sawtooth, triangle and variable pulse, plus sync support. Needless to say, the Pro-800 features the same all-round set-up. So, you’re looking at an ADSR filter envelope, amplitude ADSR, LFOs, noise, portamento and, of course, MIDI. DIN and USB MIDI that is. On top of that, Behringer have thoughtfully built in CV support for modern modular synth rigs. What’s not to love?
