Looking at the finish alone, it’s clear that Michael Kelly has taken a chunk of inspiration from boutique models when designing the 1955. To start, the swamp ash body has been topped with a stunning slice of quilted maple, and bound with pure flamed maple. Since this is a Micheal Kelly model, a compound fretboard radius offers excellent playability while the tonal range of the mounted Rockfield SWC and Mini pickup is widened by the Great-8 modification. Using this mod, both pickups can be tapped, giving this guitar its staggering 8-way configuration and a sound that ranges from twanging squeaky-cleans to thick, fat chugs, all with minimal effort.
