Having built a solid reputation for delivering nothing but high-grade, handmade stompboxes, Empress Effects presents an authentic feeling Tape Delay with a difference. Select one of three differently aged tape delays, each resulting in a more distorted, ’distressed’ texture than the last, then add your preferred level of modulation: ’Little’, ’None’, or ’Lots’! The footswitch on the left serves as an ever-useful tap-tempo for reining in the tempo to match the beat, which is also possible using the ’ratio multiplier’, where you can spin more specific delay rhythms like ’dotted 8s’. In terms of circuitry, you’re getting a fully analogue ’dry path’ that’s been plucked straight out of the sixties and seventies and the golden age of analogue, while a less vintage, but definitely welcome feature, is the ability to create and save custom presets that can be quickly called up later in the studio or on stage.
