If you want pure punch, power and definition, then you probably need a Fender Mustang Bass. This PJ-configured bass is fitted with a C-profile neck with a 30-inch scale length, a 9.5-inch fretboard radius and a satin-gloss finish. Since the neck is a little shorter than average, the frets are closer together and the string tension is lower making it a more pleasurable play for those without gigantic hands. This also makes it a relatively lightweight instrument which, if you’re playing every day, will literally save your back.
The Mustang Bass PJ: Tried, Trusted and Incredibly Flexible
The ash body of this Mustang bass is fitted with a maple neck to give a full and solid foundation sound for the PJ pickup configuration. This incredibly flexible setup involves a mash-up between a Precision split-coil mounted at the middle position and a Jazz pickup at the bridge. Isolate or combined using the 3-way switch, you get the very beat of two classic basses in one that can then be customised with the tone and volume pots.
