There’s a lot to think about when choosing your first drum kit. Some kits don’t even include stands or hardware and some don’t come with cymbals. As such, with the FDK-100 Spirit Basic, Fazley have generously done all of the thinking for you and include a 14-inch hi-hat, 16-inch crash-ride, plus a set of sticks and all the stands you need to start pounding out beats straight away.

With the FDK-100, you get five shells or drums in a fusion configuration. This means that the bass drum has a 20-inch diameter, the two toms have a 10-inch and 12-inch diameter, while the floortom is at 14-inches. While you only get two cymbals, this is the perfect set up to start learning your craft and, as you progress, you can easily add another floortom, a few more cymbals, or even a percussion rack. The cymbal stands can be set up at a minimum height of 75 to 85cm, making it easy for (approx.) 12-year-old hands to reach, and by extending the stands a little, this kit is also fit for a fully grown, long-limbed adult beginner.
Get on it!
While this kit does need to be assembled first, this is way more simple than putting together a flat-pack entertainment unit. In fact, the hardest part will be tuning the drumheads. While this can be tricky, it’s an invaluable lesson to learn and you can find plenty of help in the Bax Music Blog section or by seeking out some good Youtube tutorials.
