An explosive cymbal for the explosive drummer – that’s how you could describe this 18-inch Meinl Classics Custom Dark Heavy crash. The cymbal is made of a B10 bronze alloy, which is known for its tight attack and high/bright timbre. The heavy crash is computer hammered, giving it a somewhat dirty and trashy sound. The weight of this crash is ’medium-heavy’, making it sound a lot darker and ’heavier’ than the regular crash in this series.

The black finish of this cymbal not only looks nice, but also determines the sound of this cymbal. This is because during the manufacturing process, a black coating is applied to the B10 bronze. After this, the cymbals are only sheared, or by applying the grooves, part of the coating comes off. This ensures that although there is an attenuating effect for overtones, a very musical, dark sound remains.
