Following up the PO-133 Street Fighter, Teenage Engineering treat the universe-at-large to another insane yet highly appreciated ode to gaming history in the unique-yet-now familiar form of the PO-128 Mega Man. This slip of a synthesizer is able to transport us all way back to the ’80s, to that distinctive sound of the sub-par audio chips that came built into the first home computers and gaming consoles. The emergence of endurance of gaming-based genres like Nintendocore is enough to prove that there is an understandable thirst for that cult, bit-crushed sound. The PO-128 is simply a synthesizer loaded with the sounds you may or may not remember from the OG Mega Man games of yore, alongside enough tweakability to warp them into something unrecognisable and utterly original. It also offers a step sequencer, 16 effects, an itty-bitty built-in speaker, a display screen that explodes with Mega Man in-game animations as you play, and it can even be set up to serve as your all-new old-school alarm clock.
