The Homenaje (Tribute) a Lope de Vega sets extracts from three of the sixteenth century writer’s many works, all on the theme of romantic desire.The Vocal work is demanding and the Piano part more than mere accompaniment, which keep these songs alive in the recital repertoire.Composer, pianist, writer and educator Joaquin Turina was born in Seville in 1882 and was active mainly in Spain until his death in 1949.His work is influenced by traditional Andalusian idioms and he was particularly generous in his attention to songs, dwarfed only by his output of solo Piano music.
