The gifted Patriot Instinct Bold comes from Michael Kelly’s Custom Collection. The mahogany body is topped with a complex piece of quilted maple and finished in a stunning fade-lacquer that gives space for the wood-grain to shine through and, add that to the unique abalone centre stripe and the triple body-binding, and you have a boutique-flavoured single-cut solid body completed by more subtle details like the lengthened heel of the set-in neck, that gives effortless access to each of the 22 medium frets of the pau ferro fretboard.
The Patriot Instinct: Obliterates Every Mark
The Michael Kelly Patriot Instinct has been mounted with a pair of Rockfield SWC humbuckers that combine to deliver a predictably (but no less satisfying) thick, fat tone. Throw the Great-8 Mod into the mix and this gets blown wide open. By simply popping out the push-pull volume pot, both the neck and bridge pickups are tapped, offering a total of eight foundation tone profiles that can be switched up at will. As such, the Patriot is no one-trick-pony but a potential genre-hopping swiss-army knife of a guitar.
