The 14-inch Sabian HHX Medium hi-hat has the perfect funk-focussed response. The stick definition is as crisp as it gets, giving voice to every detail. Play it closed and these hats sound surprisingly but deliciously dry. Open them up and you get the bright, wide effect of the brilliant finish – which still retains that dry edge.
