In the case of Santa Cruz strings, it’s not about gauge. It’s all about tension here, since, while gauge simply refers to diameter, the tension actually refers to the relative volume of a given string compared to the other strings. This is called the EQ. In other words, the tension of a string is determined by the ratio between its core and winding. This number is crucial because significant tension differences can result in an EQ that’s completely thrown off, which in turn leads to your guitar sounding off. That’s exactly why Santa Cruz set out to create perfectly balanced strings, with this Parabolic Tension pack as the more than noteworthy result.
Parabolic Tension Strings: Precision Work
When it comes to manufacturing guitar strings, Santa Cruz do things their own, very precise way. For each string, the tension is calculated so that the relative volume between the various strings in the pack is optimal – all the way down to half a thousandth of an inch. As a result, you’re able to pull the deepest and the brightest notes out of your guitar, enriched with long sustain and complex harmonics. In addition, these Parabolic Tension Strings feature a micro-coating to protect them against corrosion and ensure they last extra long. As the Low Tension version, this particular pack is recommended for steel-string guitars with a smaller body (e.g. Triple O and OM).
