The history of synthesis is littered with well-known legends like the CS80 and JP8, but what about all of the unsung heroes and retro upstarts? Take Italian synth builders, Elka: they were single-handedly responsible for the Synthex which helped define the sound of none other than Jean Michel Jarre himself. Fear not! This hardware-based masterpiece has not been forgotten, and here, provides the inspiration for the software-based ode that is the XILS Lab SynX. This slab of software also takes a lot of cues from the Oberheim Matrix 12, and as such, the Synx soft-synthesizer bulges with extensive pads, sultry and thick synth-strings, fat brass leads, and lush, atmospheric noise. Not to be overlooked is the inclusion of chorus, phaser, delay, and equalisation effects, opening a virtual window into the techni-coloured world of the genuine Synthex.
