Based on the original signature model released by Gibson around the same time as the release of ’Fanatic’ by classic-rock masters, Heart, the Nancy Wilson Signature Nighthawk finally gets an affordable Epiphone make-over. This incarnation of the Nighthawk mashes together a number of features from earlier models, including Epiphone’s own ST-2, resulting in a nice, lightweight sort-of hybrid between a Les Paul and SG with a few unique extras thrown in. As such, Wilson’s signature axe has a tighter 25.5-inch scale length and a thinner single-cut body with a snug belly-cut.
The Nancy Wilson Fanatic: If Looks Could Kill
The Nancy Wilson Nighthawk provides the stripped-down electronics section of a single volume pot, a single tone pot, and a five-way selector switch, opening up a broad sonic colour-palette. The tonal foundation is laid down by a slanted and uncovered ProBucker 3 pickup at the bridge that harbours thick, humbucker-style punch, and a covered FB720 ProBucker mini-humbucker at the neck, which keeps everything full while ensuring that every nuance of every riff and lick is packed with clarity and definition. All of this sets up the Fanatic Nighthawk with a distinctly flexible character that can be applied to any genre, whether it’s straight-up, Heart-style rock, or searing neo-grunge.
