As part of the Newark St. Collection, Guild treat us to a luxurious reworking of the classic ’50s Stratford. The semi-acoustic X-350 has been mounted with not one, not two, but three Franz P90 Dog Ear style pickups, giving you a full-sized archtop guitar with a massive spectrum of sound than ranges from bright to brutal. A three-way switch is provided to select the pickup configuration; a volume pots is provided per pickup so that the perfect balance can be struck, and a single tone pot dials in the warmth or brightness. While the soul of this guitar is made for Jazz, Soul, or Blues, its tonal diversity will definitely find a place in pretty much any playing style. However, to honour that straight up Rock ’n’ Roll sound that made its name, a lightweight aluminium vibrato tailpiece has also been mounted.
