Echo or delay is a simple effect-based concept that everyone here should already be pretty familiar with. They come in hardware or software flavour and generally do exactly what you’d expect. Exclusive developers of software-based gear, Baby Audio stray far from the well-beaten path to bring us the Comeback Kid: an insanely extensive delay plug-in that seems to span every corner of the delay-based universe to bring you everything you wouldn’t expect. Now, standard-issue delay controls include a mix, rate and feedback knob, but with the Comeback Kid you get low-cut, high-cut, a transient designer, bit-reduction, tape-simulation, swirl, reverb, and we’re really only naming a few. This is way more than a mere, modest delay that just adds a touch of colour here or there. For example, a ducker ensures that the delay signal has a slight lag, so that rather than getting in the way of the dry audio signal, fills in all the gaps. This smart delay is as practical as it is rebellious, and the results say it all. If you only ever have one delay in your virtual arsenal, it probably should be this one.
